| OVERVIEW Hong Kong, the 'City of Life' lives by night, the fun hours usually do not start until midnight. Most fun-loving Chinese locals love to gather in karaokes over buckets of beer, whereas some would head for local discos distributed in Tsim Sha Tsui. While drinkers should head for Lan Kwai Fong, a tiny area of Central with relaxed drinking hours and a vast concentration of bars and restaurants. Another famous area in Central is Soho ('South of Hollywood Road'), a slightly more chic and relaxed concentration of leisure spots, just off the mid-levels escalator. Wanchai is also a very well-known districts for bars and strip joints. The red-light district part of Wan Chai are still popular with visiting sailors from Fenwick Pier. Some venues in Lan Kwai Fong and Wanchai stay open all night, while bars in Soho close around 0200 at weekends and around midnight during weekdays. Bars often compensate with happy hours, with two-for-one or half-price deals before 2000 or 2100 common. There is no minimum drinking age in Hong Kong. |
